Tektite Point (25' - 60') This site was named after NASA "Aquanauts", housed in a bathysphere, completed an underwater project at this location in 1969. Not far from Lameshur Bay this spur and groove site is dotted with large coral heads and varied terrain. Hard and soft corals and a wide variety of sponges make for some pleasant viewing. Lots of critters, including snappers, grouper, triggerfish, and a couple of turtles hang out near shore. Be sure to watch for an octopus under the boat during your safety stop.  Booby Rock (25' - 45') Located just west of Ram Head, this rock is home to an incredible display and abundance of marine life. Look for nurse sharks, turtles, octopus, sergeant majors, spotted drums, and schools of tangs and grunts. Ledges and crevices make for some very interesting exploring. There's a lot to see on this site, which can be circumnavigated with one tank.  Eagle Shoals (20' - 50') Definitely the premier dive site. With cooperating seas, Eagle Shoals will deliver a memorable dive. Overhangs, tunnels, arches and an almost overwhelming number of fish are the hallmarks of this site. Schooling durgons, grouper, parrotfish, porkfish, snappers, barracuda, tarpon and a rainbow of sponge-colors await you in totally pristine surroundings. And one cave is home to underwater weddings! That's right. There is a large circular cave with several entrances that has been used for underwater weddings performed by Reverend Bob Davis.  Flanagan Island (15' - 80') A real favorite for a number of reasons. Calm waters, shallow enough for good snorkeling and a diverse site with swim-throughs, mini-canyons, and fish life galore. Sponges, tunicates, crabs, lobster, trunkfish, filefish, queen triggerfish, spotted drums…too much to mention. Be sure and check for squid in the shallows. This is a fun spot and gets lots of requests for second and third visits. |
